SEC Appoints New Director of Enforcement, Gurbir S. Grewal
WHAT HAPPENED?
On June 29, 2021, the SEC issued a press release announcing the appointment of New Jersey Attorney General, Gurbir S. Grewal, as the Commission’s new Director of Enforcement. The announcement follows the appointment and sudden departure of Alex Oh from the same position in May.
Grewal’s track record includes experience serving as Assistant U.S. Attorney in New Jersey as Chief of the Economic Crimes Unit and with the New York U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Business and Securities Fraud Unit. Grewal has served as Attorney General of New Jersey since 2018
Grewal, whose tenure as Director of Enforcement will begin on July 26, will help carry out new SEC Chairman Gary Gensler’s brimming regulatory agenda.
